Your inputs are processed in your browser and are not transmitted to our servers. Note: third-party resources (e.g. advertising and analytics from Google/Cloudflare) and an optional PayPal donation link may transfer data when loading or when clicked. Family Tree Generator: build an ancestor chart entirely in your browser
A family tree holds the names and birth dates of your relatives, and for living relatives that is sensitive data. That is exactly why this family tree generator runs entirely in your browser: nothing is uploaded, no account is needed, and no server ever sees a name. That is the whole point of the tool.
You enter your relatives with name, birth and death date, and link them through father and mother. The tool draws a clear generational tree as a PNG. Switch between two views: "Family tree (descendants)" shows parents as a couple with their children below, "Ancestor chart" shows the ancestors of one person.
How to create a family tree
One entry per line, separated by a vertical bar: id | Name | born | died | father-id | mother-id. For example 3 | Clara Example | 1980 | - | 1 | 2, where 1 and 2 are the parents' IDs. Leave a field empty if there is nothing. Click "Generate graphic" to create the image, then download it as a PNG.
Kekulé numbering for genealogy
In the ancestor chart view you can enable classic Kekulé numbering. The proband gets number 1, the father 2, the mother 3, and each further generation is added in sequence. This gives you a unique way to order ancestors, exactly as genealogists have done for decades.
Frequently asked questions
Are my family details uploaded?
No. The family tree is drawn entirely in your browser. Your data never leaves your device, there is no sign-up and no server-side generation. This is intentional, because family and genealogy data is especially sensitive.
What is an ancestor chart?
An ancestor chart lists the ancestors of one person. Ancestors are ordered by number and generation, often using the Kekulé method where the proband is 1 and the parents are 2 and 3.
Can I change the colors?
Yes. You can choose between a light and a dark design and set your own accent color. The resolution scales up to 3x for printing.
Where can I use the image?
You download the result as a PNG and can use it privately, show it in a presentation, or print it out. There are no costs for private genealogy research.
