Business Days Calculator: Working Days With Holidays
Whether for project planning, time tracking or deadlines: how many business days lie between two dates is a constant question. This calculator counts the working days between a start and end date, subtracts weekends and additionally accounts for the public holidays of your selected German federal state. You get the net business days at a glance without manually flipping through calendars.

How it works
The tool steps through the range day by day and checks three things: whether the day is a weekend, whether it is a public holiday in the selected state, and whether it is a regular workday. Movable holidays such as Good Friday, Easter Monday or Whit Monday are computed exactly from the Easter date of the year, not approximated. You pick one of the 16 federal states, because holidays such as Epiphany, Corpus Christi, All Saints or Repentance and Prayer Day only apply regionally.
Worked example with real numbers: January 2026, state of Bremen (1 to 31 January): the range covers 31 days, of which 9 are weekends. New Year falls on a Thursday in 2026 and is the only weekday holiday in the range. That leaves 21 net business days.

What it can and cannot do
The calculator covers the nationally common public holidays and the common regional holidays of the states. Because holiday lists vary by federal state and can change over time, the tool shows a status and does not claim completeness for every special case. The result is for orientation and is not legally binding: for binding deadlines, contractual dates or employment calculations that depend on official or company-specific rules, check the applicable regulations. The calculator also treats Mon-Fri as business days and does not include individual vacation days, flex-days or shift schedules.

Frequently asked questions
How many business days does a year have in Germany?
On average about 250 business days with a 5-day week, slightly fewer depending on the state when holidays fall on weekdays. Many holidays differ by state, so the tool accounts for the selected state.
What is the difference between business days and working days?
Working days cover all days except Sundays and holidays, so they include Saturday. Business days usually mean Mon-Fri. This calculator counts Mon-Fri as business days and additionally accounts for public holidays.
Which federal states are supported?
All 16 states. Because holidays such as Epiphany, Corpus Christi, All Saints or Repentance and Prayer Day only apply in certain states, you must select the relevant one.
How are holidays that fall on a weekend handled?
Holidays that fall on a weekend do not reduce the net business days further, because that day would not be a business day anyway. They are shown separately in the result for transparency.
Is the result legally binding?
No. The calculator provides orientation based on the nationally common and common regional holidays. Holiday lists vary by state and may change, so the result is not suitable for binding deadlines. The status of the holidays used is shown in the tool.
Are my data stored?
