Work Hours Calculator: track your hours easily
The work hours calculator works out the hours you worked from a start and end time on the 24-hour clock. Enter your break and the tool subtracts it automatically. With an optional hourly rate, it also calculates your earnings. A handy quick calculator for simple time tracking without converting minutes by hand.
How it works
The calculator converts both times to minutes and works out the difference: hours worked = end time minus start time minus break. If the end time is earlier than the start, the tool detects a night shift across midnight and adds the missing hours automatically. The result appears in hours and minutes as well as a decimal value.
Worked example with real numbers:
- Start 08:30, end 16:30: difference = 8 hours.
- Break 30 minutes: hours worked = 7 h 30 min = 7.5 hours.
- At an hourly rate of 20: 7.5 × 20 = 150.00.
- Night shift 22:00 to 06:00: 8 hours (across midnight).

What it can and cannot do
The calculator performs a simple, direct calculation on the 24-hour clock. It is well suited to a quick overview, for example personal time tracking at home, keeping an eye on overtime, or a rough calculation of freelance hours. However, it is not a legally binding time recording: overtime and break rules, collective agreements, statutory rest periods or night-shift bonuses are not covered. Values are rounded to whole minutes; for exact, documented recording use a specialised time tracking system instead.
Why the calculator matters
It helps wherever simple working hours are involved: a daily log for remote work, a quick answer to how many hours you worked this week, or converting worked hours into an approximate amount earned. Because everything stays in your browser, it is also fine for private data you do not want to send anywhere.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my work hours?
Enter your start and end time in 24-hour format, for example 08:30 and 16:30. The calculator works out the hours you worked after subtracting your break.
How is my break time subtracted?
Add your break time in minutes; the default is 30 minutes. This time is subtracted automatically from the difference between the start and end time.
How are night shifts calculated?
If the end time is earlier than the start, the calculator detects a night shift across midnight and adds the missing hours automatically. A shift from 22:00 to 06:00 is therefore handled correctly.
How do I calculate my earnings?
Enter your hourly rate in euros as well. The calculator multiplies the hours you worked by this rate and shows your earnings directly in the result.
How is the result displayed?
Your work time appears in hours and minutes as well as a decimal value, for example 8 h 00 min and 8.00 hours. You can copy the result directly with the button.
Is this a legally binding time recording?
No. The calculator is for simple, approximate time tracking. It does not cover statutory break, overtime or rest-period rules and does not replace a specialised, compliant time tracking system.
Are my data stored?
No. All calculations run completely locally in your browser. Your times and hourly rate are not sent to a server, stored or shared.
