Employment Contract Generator
The Employment Contract Generator creates a template for an employment contract with the essential terms under the German Act on the Evidence of Employment Conditions (Nachweisgesetz): parties, start and duration, duties, place of work, working hours, remuneration, probation, leave and termination. Depending on your choices it adapts the clauses to the employment type, the working arrangement and the pay model. From your input it produces a PDF you can print and sign.
A written contract prevents misunderstandings, and since August 2022 the law requires the employer to hand over the essential terms in writing on paper. A purely digital document is not enough. The generator therefore provides a print-ready template that both sides can sign.
What information goes into the contract?
- Parties and addresses of employer and employee.
- Start and duration including any fixed term (§ 14 TzBfG).
- Duties and place of work as the job title and the location of the work.
- Working hours, remuneration and leave plus rules on probation and notice periods.
The template is a structural aid and not legal advice. Whether it fits your case can be checked by a labour law specialist.
Frequently asked questions
How many vacation days are the legal minimum?
The minimum leave under § 3 BUrlG is 24 working days for a six-day week, which equals 20 working days for a five-day week. Contracts often grant more, but none may fall below the minimum.
Is a digital employment contract sufficient?
Not to evidence the essential terms under the Nachweisgesetz. The employer must hand over the core terms in writing on paper since August 2022. The contract is therefore printed and signed by both parties.
Can the probation period be longer than six months?
No. The maximum probation period is six months (§ 622 (3) BGB). After that the notice periods automatically extend according to length of service.
What happens if a fixed-term contract has no end date?
A fixed term must be expressly agreed and written into the contract. If the fixed-term agreement is missing, the employment is deemed indefinite. A fixed term without objective reason is capped at two years (§ 14 TzBfG).
How do I create an indefinite contract?
Simply leave the end date field empty. Only the clause for an indefinite employment is then generated and the fixed-term clause is omitted automatically.
Can I create a contract for part-time, a mini-job or a working student?
Yes. Under employment type you choose between full-time, part-time, mini-job and working student. The clause on weekly working hours is generated accordingly.
Does the generator also work for home office or field work?
Yes. For the working arrangement you choose on site, home office or mostly travelling. The place of work is worded accordingly.
Which pay models are supported?
A monthly salary, an hourly rate or a collective agreement. Depending on your choice only the matching remuneration clause is used, and the statutory minimum wage is always respected. For the hourly rate the 2026 floor is EUR 13.90 per hour, EUR 14.60 from 2027 (Minimum Wage Commission decision of June 2025). For a mini-job the monthly earnings cap in 2026 is EUR 603, tied to the minimum wage.
Are my data stored?
No. The generator runs entirely locally in your browser. Your input is neither sent to a server nor stored; the PDF is created on your device.
