Convert Numbers between Number Bases
The Number Base Converter changes numbers between binary (base 2), octal (base 8), decimal (base 10), and hexadecimal (base 16). Enter a number and its input base, and you instantly get all four representations. Such conversions are common in computer science, for example with color values, network masks, permissions, or when debugging in the binary range.
How it works
Each number system is based on a specific radix and uses a defined set of digits. Binary uses only digits 0 and 1, octal uses digits 0 through 7, decimal uses digits 0 through 9, and hexadecimal uses digits 0 through 9 plus letters A through F. A concrete example: the decimal number 255 is represented as 11111111 in binary, as 377 in octal, and as FF in hexadecimal. The converter calculates all representations from the input and displays them simultaneously.
What the tool can and cannot do
The converter correctly handles integer values and displays all four number systems. It is well suited for learning and everyday computer science tasks. However, it does not handle decimal fractions, negative values, or fractions. Very large numbers may cause display issues. Hexadecimal values are shown in uppercase letters.
Why local processing in the browser
The conversion runs entirely on your device. Your input never leaves the computer; there is no server receiving or storing data. Once the page is loaded, the converter works offline too. You can convert as often as you like and try different values without anything being logged or transmitted.
Frequently asked questions
What does the base of a number system mean
The radix indicates how many different digits are used. Base 2 uses 0 and 1, base 10 uses 0 through 9, base 16 uses 0 through 9 and A through F.
Can I convert decimal fractions
No, the converter handles only integer values. Decimals and negative numbers are not supported.
Are my inputs saved
No. The calculation happens exclusively in your browser. Nothing is transmitted or stored.
What does FF in hexadecimal mean
FF is the hexadecimal representation of decimal 255. F stands for 15, so FF equals 15 times 16 plus 15.
Do I need to be online
The page needs to load once to provide the resources. After that the converter works offline.
Are my inputs uploaded
No. All calculations happen locally on your device. Nothing is transmitted.
