Video Compressor
Reduce video file size with adjustable resolution, frame rate and quality, keeping the audio track, all local in your browser, your file never leaves your device.
Your inputs are processed in your browser and are not transmitted to our servers. Note: third-party resources (e.g. advertising and analytics from Google/Cloudflare) and an optional PayPal donation link may transfer data when loading or when clicked. Browser extensions or plugins may be able to read content that is visible in the input fields.

Compress Video Files Directly in Your Browser
Large video files are awkward: they take up space, are hard to email and slow to upload. Our video compressor shrinks a video in your browser without re-recording it and without sending it to a server. Pick a resolution, frame rate and quality, and the tool re-encodes the video in real time. The audio track is kept when your browser can carry it over.
How it works
Load a video, choose a target resolution (1080p, 720p, 540p or 360p), a frame rate and a quality level. The tool plays the video and draws each frame onto a working canvas at the chosen size, re-encoding with your settings. Because this runs in real time, it takes about as long as the video itself. Download the result and see how much smaller it got.
Is the audio kept?
Yes, the audio track is carried over when your browser can mix it into the recorded stream. Some browsers (for example some Safari versions) cannot always do this. That is why the tool checks the result and clearly tells you when the output was created without sound, instead of silently producing a silent file.
Honest limits
Compressing is lossy: re-processing an already compressed video reduces quality further (generation loss). Also, not every file gets smaller. If a video is already heavily compressed, the output can be similar or even larger. In that case the tool tells you and lets you keep the original. For best results, compress from the original and pick a resolution that fits the actual content.
Your file stays private
Everything runs on your device. The video is never sent to our server and is not stored. Only process videos you have the rights to.
Frequently asked questions
Does the audio survive compression?
In most cases yes. Your browser can carry the audio track into the output. If that is not possible, the tool clearly tells you instead of producing a silent file.
How long does compression take?
Re-encoding runs in real time and takes about as long as the video itself. A 2-minute video takes about 2 minutes.
Which resolutions can I choose?
1080p, 720p, 540p and 360p, plus the original resolution. The width scales down to keep the aspect ratio, so no black bars appear.
Which input formats are supported?
Whatever your browser video element can decode, typically MP4, WebM and Ogg. Rare containers or codecs may not be readable by some browsers.
Will my file always get smaller?
Not necessarily. Already heavily compressed videos may not shrink further. The tool shows the new size and offers the original when the output is not smaller.
Are my videos uploaded?
No. Everything runs locally in your browser, your videos are never sent to our server and are not stored.
