Microphone Tester: check your recording level live
With this microphone tester you check whether your microphone works and how loudly it records. The test opens your microphone and shows a live level meter that responds immediately when sound arrives. This lets you see at a glance whether the microphone delivers any signal and whether the volume is in the right range. It uses the Web Audio analyser directly in the browser, everything runs entirely locally, and nothing is transmitted.
How to test correctly
- Click Open microphone and allow access in the browser prompt.
- Speak at a normal volume or clap your hands briefly.
- Watch whether the meter responds and how high it reaches with your voice.
- Check the selected microphone if multiple input devices exist.
When no level arrives
If there is no response even though you speak, check whether you selected the right input device. Often a different microphone is set as the default in the operating system or browser. Muting or a faulty cable can also be the cause. Some browsers also require the page to be visible and not muted.

How do I test my microphone?
Click Open microphone, allow access, and speak at a normal volume. The level meter responds immediately as soon as sound arrives.
Why does no level arrive?
Check that the correct microphone is selected and not muted. The cable, connection, and the default input source in the system can also be the cause.
Is my recording saved?
No. The test only shows the live level and saves no recording. No audio is sent to a server or stored permanently.
What does the meter show?
The meter shows the current loudness of your voice on a scale, together with a percentage. Fluctuations while speaking are normal.
Does it work with wireless headphones?
Yes, as long as the device is set up as an input source on your system and the browser can access it. In that case select that device as the microphone.
