Pie Chart Generator
Create pie and donut charts from CSV, JSON, XML or Excel. Percentages on slices, sortable, export as SVG, PNG or JPEG.
Your inputs are processed in your browser and are not transmitted to our servers. Note: third-party resources (e.g. advertising and analytics from Google/Cloudflare) and an optional PayPal donation link may transfer data when loading or when clicked. Browser extensions or plugins may be able to read content that is visible in the input fields.

Pie Chart Generator
The Pie Chart Generator turns a table of amounts into slices of a shared whole. Paste data or load a file, then choose a pie or a donut with an open centre. A legend explains the colours; optional labels show percentages. Save the result for a presentation or a club report. You need no spreadsheet application or account.
How it works
Paste CSV, TSV, JSON or XML into the text field, or select a file. For delimited text, the generator automatically detects commas, semicolons and tabs. You can choose a delimiter yourself if the detected columns do not match your table. Check whether the first row contains column headers. After parsing, select the category column and use the column checkboxes to choose the numeric data. A single pie needs one value series with a consistent unit.
For an illustrative table, use Rent, Food and Leisure with values of 40, 35 and 25. These add up to 100, so the slices represent 40, 35 and 25 percent. Your actual values do not need to total 100: the generator calculates each share from their sum. Add a title, choose whether to show the legend and labels, then press “Create chart”. Changing an option does not redraw the chart until you press the button again. Sort slices by size or keep the order of your source rows.
What the tool can and cannot do
The donut option changes the shape, not the proportions. Use positive values that describe parts of the same whole. Negative amounts and overlapping categories do not form a meaningful pie. Combine duplicate category names in your source table first. With many categories, the chart groups smaller entries under “Other”, so check the source before drawing conclusions about individual small groups. Large files can slow down your browser.
A pie is not a good choice for changes over time or precise comparisons between similar amounts. Use a line or bar chart instead. Unlike those chart types, a pie has no linear or logarithmic axis, so there is no scale setting to adjust here. The generator does not verify the origin of your numbers or check that your categories cover the whole population. You still need to establish what the total means.
Why local browser processing
Your browser reads the file, calculates the shares and draws the chart on your device. The generator does not send table contents to a server. That matters for internal budgets or survey results you have not published. Once the required resources have loaded, you can work offline. Excel support loads separately on the first XLSX import, so complete that step while you still have a connection. Local processing does not protect a shared computer from other users. Store downloaded charts according to the sensitivity of their contents.
Frequently asked questions
Are my data or files uploaded?
No, the generator processes all table data locally in your browser. It does not send pasted contents or selected files to a server. You do not need an account.
Which input formats can I use?
The generator reads CSV, TSV, JSON, XML and Excel XLSX. You can also paste text data directly. For XLSX it reads the first worksheet; check the column mapping afterwards.
Which output formats are available?
Download SVG, PNG or JPEG, or copy the SVG code. SVG stays sharp when you resize it. PNG offers standard and double resolution; JPEG uses a white background.
Do I need to calculate percentages first?
No, use counts or amounts in the same unit. The generator calculates each value as a share of the total. Do not mix currency amounts with item counts in one pie.
How do I create a donut chart?
Enable “Render as donut” and create the chart again. The central hole does not change the underlying values or their percentage shares. Keep a descriptive title and legend for context.
Can I use the generator offline?
Yes, after the page and the resources you need have loaded. Load XLSX support with a connection before using Excel files offline. Keep the page open in your browser afterwards.
