Image Metadata Cleaner: remove EXIF and GPS before sharing
The image metadata cleaner removes private information from an image file before you share it. This includes EXIF data such as GPS location, camera model and capture time, as well as author, copyright and other metadata.
How it works
- For JPEG files, the EXIF portion is removed directly from the file. The image data stays unchanged, with no quality loss.
- For other formats such as PNG, WebP or GIF, the image is re-encoded as PNG. This drops all metadata.
- You get a cleaned copy to download, while the original file stays untouched.
Processing runs entirely in your browser. The file is not sent to any server and is not stored.
Note: Removing metadata protects your privacy when sharing photos. It does not change the visible image content. To also blur or redact people or faces, use the "Censor Image" tool as well.
Frequently asked questions
Why should I remove metadata?
Photos from smartphones and cameras often contain GPS location, device model and capture time. When shared online, this data can reveal your whereabouts and affect your privacy.
Will my image lose quality?
For JPEG files, no. Only the metadata is removed and the image data stays identical. For other formats, the image is re-encoded as PNG, which is usually lossless.
Is my file uploaded?
No. All steps run locally in your browser. The file never leaves your device.
Can I add metadata again later?
Removal is not reversible. Keep the original file somewhere safe if you need the metadata later. External tools can insert EXIF data again.
Does this also remove my watermark?
No. A watermark is part of the visible image, not metadata. This tool only removes invisible metadata, not the visible image content.
Is the original file modified?
No. You always get a separate cleaned copy to download. The original file stays unchanged.
