Bridge Days Planner 2026 and 2027

The Bridge Days Planner shows all public holidays in the German federal states for the years 2026 and 2027 and highlights the bridge days. A bridge day arises when a public holiday falls on a Thursday or a Tuesday. Then a single vacation day is enough to extend the long weekend considerably: from Thursday to Sunday you get four days off, from Tuesday to Sunday even six if you also take the Monday off. The tool automatically recognises such constellations in all 16 federal states.

The holiday data comes from feiertage-api.de and fully covers the calendar years 2026 and 2027. You select your federal state and immediately see where a vacation day pays off. Note that some holidays apply only in individual states, such as Repentance and Prayer Day in Bavaria and Saxony, World Children's Day in Thuringia, or International Women's Day in Berlin and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

How the Bridge Days Planner works

You choose your federal state and one of the years 2026 or 2027. The tool lists all public holidays and highlights those that already fall on a weekend. It also shows the weekday of each holiday so you can tell at a glance when a Thursday or Tuesday creates a bridge day. For example: if a holiday falls on a Thursday, one vacation day on the Friday gives you four consecutive days off.

  • Selection of one of the 16 federal states
  • Overview of holidays for the year 2026 or 2027
  • Highlighting of bridge days on Thursdays and Tuesdays
  • Marking of regional holidays such as Repentance and Prayer Day or Women's Day

What it can and cannot do

The planner provides a reliable overview of public holidays and their weekdays. It recognises bridge days in all federal states and reminds you that Easter Sunday and Pentecost Sunday always fall on a weekend and therefore create no additional days off. It does not, however, consider individual company closures, school holidays, or special collective agreements. For the final leave plan, what your employer approves for bridge days also matters.

Frequently asked questions

What is a bridge day?

A bridge day is the working day between a public holiday and the weekend. If a holiday falls on a Thursday, for example, taking the Friday off closes the gap and gives you four consecutive days off.

Which years does the planner cover?

The planner covers exactly the calendar years 2026 and 2027. Further years are not currently included.

Which federal states are supported?

All 16 federal states. The planner also takes state-specific holidays into account, such as Repentance and Prayer Day only in Bavaria and Saxony.

What about Easter Sunday and Pentecost Sunday?

Both always fall on a Sunday and therefore already lie within the weekend. They bring no additional free working day and are not bridge days in the stricter sense.

Which holidays apply only in individual states?

Examples: Repentance and Prayer Day only in Bavaria and Saxony, World Children's Day in Thuringia, Women's Day in Berlin and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Epiphany in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and Saxony-Anhalt, as well as Corpus Christi, All Saints' Day and Assumption in several predominantly Catholic states.

Where does the holiday data come from?

The data comes from the public feiertage-api.de and is complete for 2026 and 2027.
