XOR Checksum
Compute an XOR checksum for your data, a simple way to verify the integrity of files or data transfers. Runs locally in your browser, GDPR-compliant.
Your inputs are processed in your browser and are not transmitted to our servers. Note: third-party resources (e.g. advertising and analytics from Google/Cloudflare) and an optional PayPal donation link may transfer data when loading or when clicked. Browser extensions or plugins may be able to read content that is visible in the input fields.

XOR Checksum
The XOR checksum is a simple method for verifying data integrity. Each byte of the input is combined with a running value via XOR operation. The result is a two-digit hexadecimal value representing the data. This tool computes the XOR checksum of your data directly in your browser.
How it works
The algorithm reads all characters of the input and applies the XOR operator to each character. Each letter is converted to its ASCII code. The current checksum value is XORed with the ASCII code of the character. In the end one byte remains, displayed as a two-digit hexadecimal value. For example, XOR of "ABC": A(65) XOR B(66) = 3, then 3 XOR C(67) = 64, which is 0x40. The computation is performed byte by byte over all input data.
What the tool can and cannot do
The XOR checksum is a simple checksum and not a cryptographic method. It cannot reliably detect tampering because different data can produce the same result. The tool is suitable for simple integrity checks, not for security applications. It processes only ASCII text and not binary data. The input length is limited by browser memory.
Why local browser processing
Local browser processing means your data never reaches a server. No uploads, no server logs, no third-party access. You need no account. After the page loads, the tool works offline too. There is no server that could be attacked and your data stays on your device. This is especially important with sensitive data like payroll lists or customer information.
Frequently asked questions
What is an XOR checksum?
It is a simple method where each byte of the input is combined with a running value via the XOR operator. The result is a two-digit hexadecimal value.
Muss ich dafür online sein?
No, after the page loads the tool works offline. Resources are cached in the browser.
Werden meine Daten hochgeladen?
No, your data is never sent to a server. Everything is processed locally in your browser.
Is the XOR checksum secure?
No, it is a simple checksum, not a cryptographic method. It cannot reliably detect tampering.
Can the tool process binary data?
No, the tool processes only ASCII text. Binary data is not supported.
What does XOR byte by byte mean?
Each character is converted to its ASCII code and XORed with the running value. One byte remains at the end.
