UUID Validator

A UUID is a standardized format used in many systems. However, not every string is a valid UUID. This tool checks whether a string is a valid UUID and directly shows its version and variant in your browser without any detours. Everything runs locally in your browser.

How it works

The validator checks the input against the UUID format per RFC 4122. A valid UUID has 32 hexadecimal characters in the form 8-4-4-4-12, separated by hyphens. The validator analyzes the 13th position to determine the version (1 through 5) and the 17th position for the variant. For a valid RFC 4122 UUID, the 17th position is one of the digits 8, 9, a, or b. Results are displayed immediately.

What the tool can and cannot do

The tool can only validate UUIDs in standard format. It does not accept UUIDs without hyphens or in alternative formats. It cannot distinguish between genuine UUIDs and strings that happen to match the pattern if the underlying pattern is coincidentally correct. It does not validate UUIDs against a database or server. It does not support UUID versions outside the standard.

Why local browser processing

Local browser processing means your data never reaches a server. No uploads, no server logs, no third-party access. You need no account. After the page loads, the tool works offline too. There is no server that could be attacked and your data stays on your device. This is especially important with sensitive data like payroll lists or customer information.
