Tip Calculator: keep the tip and the total in check
The tip calculator helps you work out the right tip in a restaurant or café. Pick a percentage and the tool shows tip and total amount. When you pay together, you can split the bill between any number of people.
How the tip is calculated
The tip is a percentage of the bill amount. The formulas are:
Tip = Bill × tip percentage ÷ 100 and Total = Bill + Tip. When splitting, divide the total by the number of people: Per person = Total ÷ number of people.
Worked example: The bill is 60.00. At 10% tip the tip is 60 × 10 ÷ 100 = 6.00 and the total is 66.00. If three people pay together, each pays 66 ÷ 3 = 22.00 (of which 2.00 tip per person).

How much tip is common?
In Germany 10% is a good standard, often 15% for especially good service. Rounding up to the next full euro is also common. The calculator lets you adjust the percentage freely.
What to keep in mind
The tool helps with the calculation; it does not tip or pay anything itself. A tip is a free decision, and its size depends on service, satisfaction and personal judgement. There is no obligation to give a particular percentage.
Quick reference: tips at a glance
Typical tip amounts (based on a bill of 50.00):
- 5% = 2.50, total 52.50.
- 10% = 5.00, total 55.00.
- 15% = 7.50, total 57.50.
- 20% = 10.00, total 60.00.
Daily tipping: round or exact?
Many diners prefer to round the tip up to a clean amount rather than calculate exactly. For a bill of 47.00, for example, a 5.00 tip (just over 10%) or rounding the total up to 52.00 is common. The calculator shows you the exact percentage; you can then round up freely when it comes to paying.
Another practical example: on a bill of 23.50 with a 15% tip, the tip is 23.50 × 15 ÷ 100 = 3.53 and the total is 27.03. If you round the total up to 28.00, that equals roughly 19%.
