How it works
The calculator uses one simple, transparent formula. The power of an appliance in watts is first converted into kilowatts, then multiplied by the daily hours of use and the number of days in a year. Finally, the price per kilowatt-hour is applied.
- Enter the appliance power in watts, for example 2000 W for a kettle.
- Enter the hours of use per day, for example 0.2 hours for one quick boil.
- Enter the electricity price per kWh, a common example is around 0.35 € per kWh.
- The annual cost is (watts / 1000) × hours per day × 365 × price per kWh.
What it can and cannot do
The calculator gives you a fast, realistic estimate of the annual electricity costs for almost any appliance. It does not account for standby losses, fluctuating efficiency during operation, or tariffs that change within the year. For everyday use that is entirely sufficient, but for an exact bill you should check your provider’s meter readings. All calculations run fully locally in your browser, and no data is transmitted.

What is the average electricity price per kWh?
As a rough guideline for 2026, many example calculations use a price of around 0.35 € per kilowatt-hour. The actual price depends on your tariff, your location, and your supplier. The best approach is to enter the value from your own electricity bill so the calculation matches your household.
Why should I know the power costs of individual devices?
Because surprising savings potential often hides there. An old refrigerator can draw far more electricity per year than a modern one, and knowing the runtime of a hair dryer or gaming PC quickly shows where a more conscious approach or a device upgrade pays off.

Is the wattage printed on the device reliable?
The wattage on the label indicates the maximum power draw. In practice the real consumption is often a little lower because devices rarely run at full power continuously. The calculation is therefore a good, slightly conservative estimate.
