ROT47

The ROT47 converter encrypts or decrypts text with the ROT47 algorithm. ROT47 is an extension of the Caesar cipher that operates across all printable ASCII characters from 33 to 126. Instead of shifting only letters, it rotates all printable characters including digits and special characters by 47 positions in the ASCII table. The converter works locally in your browser.

How it works

With ROT47, each printable character with an ASCII value from 33 to 126 is rotated by 47 positions in the ASCII table. If the result exceeds 126, it wraps back by 94 positions since there are 94 printable characters in total. For example, the exclamation mark has ASCII value 33. With ROT47 it becomes the character with value 80, the uppercase letter P. The letter A has ASCII value 65 and becomes the character with value 112, the lowercase letter p.

What the tool can and cannot do

The converter can encrypt and decrypt text with ROT47. It operates across all 94 printable ASCII characters from 33 to 126, including digits, letters, and special characters. It cannot process Unicode characters outside this range. ROT47 provides no real security and is not suitable for protecting sensitive data. It is a simple encoding algorithm for creative and educational purposes.

Why local processing in the browser

All calculations happen locally in your browser. Your text inputs are never sent to a server. There is no upload and no server log files. You need neither an account nor a registration. After the page loads, the converter works offline too. There is no server that could be attacked and nothing is transmitted over the network. You can freely encrypt and decrypt because nothing is stored.

Frequently asked questions

What is ROT47?

ROT47 is an encryption algorithm that rotates all printable ASCII characters from 33 to 126. It is an extension of the Caesar cipher that includes digits and special characters.

Do I need to be online?

No, after the page has loaded, the converter works offline. The required assets are cached.

Are my data uploaded?

No, your text inputs are never sent to a server. Everything is processed locally in your browser.

Is ROT47 different from ROT13?

Yes, ROT47 rotates all printable characters from 33 to 126, while ROT13 only handles letters and shifts the letter range.

Can ROT47 handle Unicode characters?

No, ROT47 works only with the 94 printable ASCII characters. Characters outside this range are not rotated.

Is the converter free to use?

Yes, the ROT47 converter is a free tool that runs directly in your browser. There are no hidden costs.
