How it works

The algorithm scans the entire text and identifies contiguous whitespace regions consisting of multiple spaces, tabs, or line breaks. Each such region is replaced by a single space character. A concrete example: the text Hello World with four spaces between the words becomes Hello World with exactly one space. Similarly, a sequence like Line 1 followed by three line breaks and then Line 2 becomes Line 1, a single line break, and Line 2. Mixed whitespace combinations such as spaces and tabs following each other are also collapsed into a single space.

What the tool can and cannot do

The tool can collapse runs of any number of spaces, tabs, and line breaks into a single space. It processes texts of any length and delivers consistent results. However, it does not remove deliberate formatting, for instance if someone intentionally uses multiple spaces for alignment. There is no option to remove only excessive line breaks or only excessive spaces. The tool does not offer a way to selectively preserve leading or trailing spaces unless they are part of a larger whitespace run.

Why local processing in the browser

Everything happens directly on your device. Your text inputs are never sent to a server, there is no upload and no server logs storing your data. You need neither an account nor a sign-up. After the page loads once, the tool works offline too, because all assets are cached in the browser. There is no server to attack and nothing is transmitted over the network. You can try as often as you like, discard results, and compute anew, because nothing is stored or tracked.
