Split into Teams

The Team splitter distributes the entries of a list evenly across a selectable number of teams. You enter a list of names or items and specify how many groups to form. The generator ensures a fair distribution where each entry is assigned to exactly one group and group sizes are as even as possible. The tool is useful for game groups, project work, or any situation where random teams need to be formed.

How it works

The generator divides the list entries so that group sizes are as evenly distributed as possible. If you have 20 names and want to form 4 teams, each team gets exactly 5 members. If the number of entries is not evenly divisible by the number of teams, some teams get one member more than others. As a concrete example: with 23 entries and 4 teams, three teams get 6 members each and one team gets 5 members. The assignment of entries to teams is random, so no group is systematically favored.

What the tool can and cannot do

This tool distributes list entries across teams. It cannot create lists itself, consider preferences or skills of participants, or perform complex multi-criteria grouping algorithms. It simply distributes evenly, which makes it ideal for fair team assignments but unsuitable for weighted or skill-based grouping. The list must be manually entered by the user; the generator does not read external data sources.

Why local processing in the browser

All calculations run directly in your browser. Your inputs and the generated teams are never sent to a server, there is no upload and no server logs. You do not need to register or have an account. After the page loads, the generator also works offline because assets are cached in the browser. There is no attackable server and nothing is transmitted over the network.
