Random String
Generate a random string with selectable length and character set, giving you a fast and reliable way to create passwords or tokens. GDPR-compliant.
Your inputs are processed in your browser and are not transmitted to our servers. Note: third-party resources (e.g. advertising and analytics from Google/Cloudflare) and an optional PayPal donation link may transfer data when loading or when clicked. Browser extensions or plugins may be able to read content that is visible in the input fields.

Random String
The Random String generator produces a random string with selectable length and character set. You can set the length and choose which characters to use, for example only letters, only digits, or a combination. The tool is useful for generating passwords, tokens, session IDs, or other cryptographic values. All calculations run locally in your browser.
How it works
The generator selects a random character from the chosen character set for each position of the string. As a concrete example: if you generate a 12-character string from uppercase and lowercase letters plus digits (62 possible characters), the number of possible combinations is 62 to the power of 12, approximately 3.2 x 10 to the power of 21. This is an enormous number that makes it practically impossible to guess the string. The generator uses cryptographically secure random numbers to ensure string quality. The character set defines the space from which each position is drawn independently.
What the tool can and cannot do
This tool generates random strings. It does not encrypt data, validate password strength against standard security criteria, or store generated strings. The random number generation depends on the operating system and in rare cases may rely on weak random values if the system randomness source is not sufficiently entropic. The generator cannot produce strings with special requirements like a minimum number of special characters or excluded look-alike characters unless the character set is correspondingly restricted.
Why local processing in the browser
All calculations happen directly in your browser. Your inputs and the generated string are never sent to a server, there is no upload and no server logs. You do not need to register or have an account. After the page loads, the generator also works offline because assets are cached in the browser. There is no attackable server and nothing is transmitted over the network.
Frequently asked questions
How secure are the generated strings?
The generator uses cryptographically secure random numbers, producing highly secure strings. Quality depends on the operating system randomness source.
Do I need to be online?
No, the Random String generator works offline after the page loads. Everything runs locally in your browser.
Are my data uploaded?
No, your inputs and the generated string stay on your device. No upload, no server logs.
Can I choose the length of the string?
Yes, you can set the desired length and adjust the character set.
Can the generator produce passwords with special characters?
Yes, if you choose a character set that includes special characters, the tool generates them too.
Is the generator free?
Yes, the Random String generator is a free tool that runs directly in your browser.
