Random Hex
Generate a random hexadecimal number with selectable length, giving you a quick and flexible way to create color values or identifiers. GDPR-compliant.
Your inputs are processed in your browser and are not transmitted to our servers. Note: third-party resources (e.g. advertising and analytics from Google/Cloudflare) and an optional PayPal donation link may transfer data when loading or when clicked. Random Hex
The Random Hex generator produces a random hexadecimal number with selectable length. Hexadecimal numbers use digits 0 through 9 and letters A through F to represent values in base 16. A single hex byte covers the range 00 to FF, corresponding to the decimal value 0 to 255. The tool is useful for generating color values, unique identifiers, or checksums. All calculations run locally in your browser.
How it works
The generator produces a random digit or letter from the range 0-9 and A-F for each position of the hexadecimal number. At a length of 6 characters, this yields a complete color code in RRGGBB format, where each of the three color components can take a value from 00 to FF (0 to 255 decimal). As a concrete example: the generator might produce the hexadecimal value 3A7F2C. This corresponds to decimal values 58, 127, 127, 255, 44, and 12 for the individual bytes. Each position is independent and uniformly distributed. The total number of possible 6-character hex values is 16 to the power of 6, or 16,777,216.
What the tool can and cannot do
This tool generates pure hexadecimal numbers. It does not convert hex values to other formats, validate existing hex values, or interpret special meanings of hex codes. The generated values are random and have no inherent validity as colors or identifiers; they must be verified in their respective context if needed. The length is freely selectable, but very long hexadecimal numbers can be hard to read. The generator does not assess color suitability and may produce values with low contrast.
Why local processing in the browser
All calculations happen directly in your browser. Your inputs and the generated hex value are never sent to a server, there is no upload and no server logs. You do not need to register or have an account. After the page loads, the generator also works offline because assets are cached in the browser. There is no attackable server and nothing is transmitted over the network.
Frequently asked questions
What does FF mean in hexadecimal?
FF in hexadecimal equals the decimal value 255. A single byte ranges from 00 to FF, covering 0 to 255 decimal.
Do I need to be online?
No, the Random Hex generator works offline after the page loads. Everything runs locally in your browser.
Are my data uploaded?
No, your inputs and the generated value stay on your device. There is no upload and no server logs.
Can I choose the length of the hex number?
Yes, you can set the desired length of the hexadecimal number.
Can the generator produce colors in RGB format?
The generator produces hex values in RRGGBB format, which can be used directly as color values.
Is the generator free?
Yes, the Random Hex generator is a free tool that runs directly in your browser.
