Random GUID

A UUID, or universally unique identifier, is a 128-bit value widely used in software development for identifiers. Version 4 means the values are randomly generated. This tool generates a random UUID v4 directly in your browser, locally and without sign-up. Everything happens on your device.

How it works

A UUID v4 consists of 32 hexadecimal characters, divided into five groups of lengths 8, 4, 4, 4, and 12. The 13th position marks the version as 4, the 17th position indicates the variant. In total, a UUID v4 has 122 random bits, resulting in 2 to the power of 122 possible combinations. That is about 5.3 times 10 to the power of 36 different UUIDs. The browser random number generator produces these values cryptographically securely.

What the tool can and cannot do

The generated UUIDs are random and theoretically unique, but there is no absolute uniqueness guarantee across all devices. The tool does not generate UUIDs version 1 or 3. It cannot validate or verify existing UUIDs. The quality of randomness depends on the browser implementation. The tool does not offer bulk generation.

Why local browser processing

Local browser processing means your data never reaches a server. No uploads, no server logs, no third-party access. You need no account. After the page loads, the tool works offline too. There is no server that could be attacked and your data stays on your device. This is especially important with sensitive data like payroll lists or customer information.

Frequently asked questions

What is a UUID v4?

A UUID v4 is a 128-bit value with 122 random bits. It has 2 to the power of 122 possible combinations, which is about 5.3 times 10 to the power of 36.

Muss ich dafür online sein?

No, after the page loads the tool works offline. Resources are cached in the browser.

Werden meine Daten hochgeladen?

No, the generated UUIDs are never sent to a server. Everything is processed locally in your browser.

Are the UUIDs really unique?

Yes, with 2 to the power of 122 possible values the probability of a duplicate is practically zero.

Can I generate multiple UUIDs at once?

No, the tool generates one UUID per run.

Is the random generation secure?

Yes, the browser uses a cryptographically secure random number generator.
