Placeholder image generator for web & design

The placeholder image generator quickly creates a placeholder image in the size you need. Pick one of the standard sizes or enter custom pixel dimensions, add a color theme or your own gradient and optionally some text. The finished image is generated as JPG or WebP right in your browser.

What the generator offers

  • Four standard sizes plus custom width and height up to 4096 px.
  • Eight color themes, including several gradient presets.
  • Custom gradient with two freely chosen HEX colors.
  • Output as JPG or WebP, adjustable quality.
  • Optional label on the image, left empty shows the dimensions.

That lets developers and designers build mockups, loading states or page templates without waiting for a provider. The generator runs 100 % locally in your browser, no images or inputs are uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

How do I create a placeholder image?

Choose a size or enter custom dimensions, pick a color theme or your own gradient and select JPG or WebP. Click "Generate placeholder" and the image appears immediately with a download button.

Which sizes can I choose?

There are four standard sizes: 300 × 200, 600 × 400, 1200 × 630 (great as an Open Graph image) and 1920 × 1080. In addition you can enter any width and height up to 4096 px under "Custom".

Can I use my own gradient?

Yes. Choose "Custom gradient" as the color theme and enter two HEX colors, for example #2E5F80 and #76A7C9. The gradient runs diagonally across the image.

Which formats can I download?

You can download the image as JPG or as WebP. WebP is usually smaller at the same quality and works well for the web.

Does my image go to a server?

No. The image is created entirely in your browser on a canvas and downloaded from there. Neither the image nor your inputs leave your device.
