HTML to Markdown

The converter turns HTML source into readable Markdown. Paste your HTML and the tool produces clean Markdown with headings, lists, tables, links, images, quotes and code blocks. You can copy the result or download it as a .md file.

What is supported

  • Headings (h1 to h6) become #, ##, ### and so on
  • Lists (ul, ol) with nested levels and numbering
  • Bold (strong), italic (em), code and strikethrough (del)
  • Links, images, block quotes and code blocks
  • Tables as Markdown tables

This tool is the direct neighbour of the HTML Source Cleaner. While the cleaner reduces HTML to its structural core, this converter turns content into the platform-independent Markdown format.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the conversion?

The tool covers the common HTML elements that have a Markdown equivalent. Heavily nested layouts or complicated inline styles are deliberately not carried over, because Markdown has no semantic counterpart for them.

Can I convert whole websites?

You can paste one document per run. Scripts and styles are ignored, the visible content is converted to Markdown. The tool works well for single pages and articles.

Why is this tool useful?

When you want to move content from a website into a wiki, a CMS or documentation, the converter gives you usable Markdown right away instead of raw HTML.

Are my contents uploaded anywhere?

No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser. Your HTML code is not transmitted to our server or stored.
