Hex to Text / Text to Hex

The Hex converter transforms text into hexadecimal codes and back. Hexadecimal is a numeral system with base 16 that is widely used in computing. It uses digits 0 through 9 and letters A through F for values 10 through 15. The converter shows you the hexadecimal value of each character and you can also convert hex codes back into readable text.

How it works

Hexadecimal uses 16 symbols: the digits 0 through 9 and the letters A through F. Each character in the text is converted to its hexadecimal ASCII value. For example, the letter A has hexadecimal value 41, B has 42, and the space character has value 20. The word "Hi" has the hex code 48 69. Conversely, the values 48 and 69 translate back to H and i.

What the tool can and cannot do

The converter can transform text to hexadecimal codes and back. It works with the full ASCII character range. However, it cannot handle Unicode characters beyond 255 because they do not fit into the single-byte hexadecimal representation. Characters outside the ASCII range are not correctly represented. This tool is a pure conversion utility without further analysis functions.

Why local processing in the browser

All conversions happen locally in your browser. Your text inputs are never sent to a server. There is no upload and no server log files storing your data. You need neither an account nor a sign-up. After the page loads, the converter works offline too. There is no server that could be attacked and nothing is transmitted over the network. Local processing avoids the energy required to transmit data to a remote server.
