Discount Calculator: find the final price or the original price

Whether it is a sale, a coupon or a promo code, our discount calculator shows you in seconds what a reduced item really costs. Enter the price and the discount percentage and the final price appears immediately. You can also reverse the calculation to find the original price when you only know the discounted price.

How the discount is calculated

The final price is the price minus the discount percentage. The formulas are:

Savings = Price × discount ÷ 100 and Final price = Price × (1 − discount ÷ 100).

Worked examples:

  • 20% discount: An item costs 100.00. Savings = 100 × 20 ÷ 100 = 20.00, final price = 80.00.
  • 50% discount: An item costs 200.00. Savings = 100.00, final price = 100.00.
  • Original price backwards: The reduced price is 80.00 with a 20% discount. Original = 80 ÷ (1 − 0.20) = 100.00, savings = 20.00.

Two calculation modes

  • Final price after discount: you know the price and the percentage. The tool subtracts the discount and shows savings and final price.
  • Original price: you only see the discounted price. The tool finds the original price and your savings.

What to keep in mind with percentage discounts

Discounts are usually applied to the gross price you pay at the till. Percentage discounts do not stack additively: two successive 50% promotions add up to 75%, not 100%. The calculator applies the entered percentage directly to the base price; it does not model stacking or special rules.

Quick reference: common discounts

So you can estimate discounts in your head, a few typical values (based on a 100.00 base price):

  • 10% discount = 10.00 saved, final price 90.00.
  • 20% discount = 20.00 saved, final price 80.00.
  • 25% discount = 25.00 saved, final price 75.00.
  • 50% discount = 50.00 saved, final price 50.00.

What you can use the discount calculator for

  • Sale check: verify whether the advertised percentage really matches the reduced price.
  • Shopping planning: compare original and final price comfortably.
  • Sales pricing: retailers work out the right reduced price from the base price.

Discounts and VAT

In Germany a discount is usually granted on the gross price. The calculator works with the price you enter, regardless of whether it already includes VAT. For business calculations it makes sense to first clarify whether your base price is gross or net, so the discount matches the savings you want.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the final price after a discount?

Enter the price and the discount percentage. The calculator subtracts the discount from the price and immediately shows you both your savings and the final price.

How do I find the original price when I only know the reduced price?

Switch to the original price mode and enter the already reduced price plus the discount. The tool then works out the original price and your savings.

What is the difference between final price and original price?

The final price is the amount you pay after the discount is deducted. The original price is the price before the discount. The calculator can determine both based on your entries.

Which discounts can I use the calculator for?

The calculator suits all common discounts, such as sales, coupons, Black Friday, or loyalty offers. You simply enter the percentage and the tool does the rest.

How large is the savings from a discount?

The savings is the amount deducted from the original price. It is calculated from the discount percentage of the price and is shown together with the final price.

Can I stack discounts?

The calculator applies exactly one percentage to the base price. It does not model multiple successive discounts (stacking) or special rules; calculate such cases step by step.

Does the discount apply to the gross or the net price?

The calculator applies the percentage to the price you enter. A discount on the gross price is common in Germany. For business calculations, clarify whether your base price is gross or net.

Are my data stored?

No. All calculations run 100 % locally in your browser. Your entries are neither sent to a server nor stored.
