CSV to TSV

CSV files use commas as delimiters, while TSV files use tabs. Some applications, spreadsheets, or databases prefer the tab-separated format because commas in text fields can cause problems. This tool converts CSV data into TSV format by replacing each comma with a tab. Everything happens locally in your browser.

How it works

The converter reads the CSV file line by line and replaces each delimiter defined by the CSV format with a tab character. The quotation rules are respected: values enclosed in quotation marks are not split at the boundaries. After conversion, each line contains the same fields, but separated by tabs instead of commas. The result is a standard-compliant TSV file that can be opened in any spreadsheet program.

What the tool can and cannot do

The conversion works only with standard-compliant CSV files. If the file contains inconsistent delimiters or malformed quotation marks, conversion may fail. The tool cannot perform complex data normalization. Only basic CSV-to-TSV conversions are supported. The character encoding must be UTF-8 for correct operation.

Why local browser processing

Local browser processing means your CSV data never reaches a server. No uploads, no server logs, no third-party access. You need no account. After the page loads, the tool works offline too. There is no server that could be attacked and your data stays on your device. This is especially important with sensitive data like payroll lists or customer information.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between CSV and TSV?

CSV uses commas as delimiters, TSV uses tabs. TSV is less error-prone because tabs rarely appear in text fields.

Muss ich dafür online sein?

No, after the page loads the tool works offline. Resources are cached in the browser.

Werden meine Daten hochgeladen?

No, your CSV data is never sent to a server. Everything is processed locally in your browser.

Can the tool convert other delimiters?

The tool detects the delimiter automatically. It supports comma, semicolon, and tab as input.

Is there a file size limit?

Yes, the file must fit in the browser memory.

Is the conversion lossless?

Yes, for standard-compliant CSV files the conversion is completely lossless.
