Quote CSV Fields
Quote your CSV values so that even special characters are handled safely, preparing them reliably for export or further processing. GDPR-compliant.
Your inputs are processed in your browser and are not transmitted to our servers. Note: third-party resources (e.g. advertising and analytics from Google/Cloudflare) and an optional PayPal donation link may transfer data when loading or when clicked. Browser extensions or plugins may be able to read content that is visible in the input fields.

Quote CSV Fields
CSV data often contains values with special characters like commas, quotation marks, or line breaks. Without proper handling, these characters can destroy the structure of the file. This tool reliably encloses such values in quotation marks and makes them safe for export or further processing. Everything runs locally in your browser.
How it works
The tool scans each cell of the CSV data and checks whether it contains a delimiter, a quotation mark, or a line break. According to RFC 4180 rules, such fields must be enclosed in double quotation marks. A quotation mark inside a field is represented by a doubled quotation mark. For example, the value "Müller, GmbH" becomes ""Müller, GmbH"". The converter applies these rules automatically to all fields.
What the tool can and cannot do
The tool can only process CSV text. It does not interpret binary data or formatting. It cannot always correctly detect existing quotation marks if the file is not fully RFC-compliant. Processing is done character by character, so detection of encoding issues may be limited. Only UTF-8 compatible strings are supported.
Why local browser processing
Local browser processing means your CSV data never reaches a server. No uploads, no server logs, no third-party access. You need no account. After the page loads, the tool works offline too. There is no server that could be attacked and your data stays on your device. This is especially important with sensitive data like payroll lists or customer information.
Frequently asked questions
What are the RFC 4180 rules?
RFC 4180 defines the standard CSV format. Fields with delimiters, quotation marks, or line breaks must be enclosed in double quotes. Quotation marks inside such fields are doubled.
Muss ich dafür online sein?
No, after the page loads the tool works offline. Resources are cached in the browser.
Werden meine Daten hochgeladen?
No, your CSV data is never sent to a server. Everything is processed locally in your browser.
Can the tool remove existing quotation marks?
No, the tool adds quotation marks. It does not remove existing ones but correctly follows RFC rules.
Are empty fields quoted?
No, empty fields remain unchanged. Only fields with special characters are quoted.
Does the tool support other character encodings?
The tool works primarily with UTF-8. Other encodings may lead to unexpected results.
