Extract CSV Column
CSV files consist of rows separated by a delimiter such as a comma or semicolon. Often you need only one specific column from such a file. This tool extracts exactly that column from each row and outputs it as a separate list. Everything happens locally in your browser.
How it works
The converter reads each row of the CSV file, detects the delimiter, and splits the row at the appropriate positions. You can choose the column number, starting from 1. For example, a CSV file with columns Name, Age, and City would yield the city values from the third column. The extraction outputs only those values, one per line. RFC 4180 CSV rules are respected, including the handling of quotation marks.
What the tool can and cannot do
The tool can only process tabular data in CSV format. It cannot interpret nested or unstructured data. Errors may occur if the file does not use a consistent delimiter or contains embedded structures. It does not support XML or JSON formats. The maximum file size is limited by browser memory, typically a few megabytes.
Why local browser processing
Local browser processing means your CSV data never reaches a server. No uploads, no server logs, no third-party access. You need no account. After the page loads, the tool works offline too. There is no server that could be attacked and your data stays on your device. This is especially important with sensitive data like payroll lists or customer information.
Frequently asked questions
Which CSV formats are supported?
The tool processes standard CSV files according to RFC 4180. Common delimiters like comma, semicolon, and tab are detected. The file must have a consistent structure.
Muss ich dafür online sein?
No, after the page loads the tool works offline. Resources are cached in the browser.
Werden meine Daten hochgeladen?
No, your CSV data is never sent to a server. Everything is processed locally in your browser.
How do I select the right column?
Columns are numbered from left to right, starting at 1. You can enter the number of the desired column.
Is there a file size limit?
Yes, the file must fit in the browser memory. Very large files may cause the browser to freeze.
Can I extract multiple columns at once?
No, the tool extracts one column per run. For multiple columns, you can repeat the process.
