Countdown Timer: Count Down Live to a Target
This countdown timer counts down live to a target date and time, or from a custom duration. Choose your mode, set the target or duration, and press Start. The large display shows remaining days, hours, minutes and seconds. The timer uses the clock of your own device and runs entirely in your browser.
How the countdown works
The timer has two modes:
- Target mode: enter a date and time and the timer counts down to exactly that moment.
- Duration mode: set a span in hours, minutes and seconds and the timer starts from now.
The display updates continuously and breaks the remaining time down into days, hours, minutes and seconds. When the time runs out, the timer shows Time is up.
Worked example with real numbers:
- Duration mode: pick 1 hour 30 minutes. The timer starts and counts these 90 minutes down from now.
- Target mode: set an appointment on 1 October 2026 at 09:00. The timer shows the days, hours, minutes and seconds remaining until then.
What the timer can do
- Count down to a specific date and time
- Count from a free choice of duration (hours, minutes, seconds)
- Show the remaining time in days, hours, minutes and seconds
- Start with Start and restart with Reset
- Show a message once the time has run out
You can use the countdown either as an appointment countdown (until a fixed date) or as a duration timer (from now on). The display is deliberately large and easy to read at a glance, so you can take in the remaining time from a distance. One click on Reset stops the run and brings the timer back to its starting state.
What it can and cannot do
The countdown is a pure in-browser timer: it counts using the local clock of your device and does not use a server time source. Concretely, if you close the tab, reload the page or quit the browser, the timer stops and does not continue on its own. Switching to another tab can also delay the display in some browsers, because power-saving features may throttle background tabs. The timer is meant for personal scheduling and is not a system for time-critical, monitored processes or a binding record of time.
Why the timer matters
It helps with countdowns to appointments (holidays, releases, birthdays, milestones) or as a simple down-counter for breaks, work sprints or study sessions. Because everything runs locally and no data is transmitted, it is also fine for private or confidential appointments.

How do I start a countdown?

No. The timer is for personal scheduling. It is not a monitored time system and is not suitable for binding or industrial processes that need exact, uninterrupted time measurement.
Are my data stored?
