Number Base Calculator (Any Base 2-36)
Convert any decimal number into another numeral system, base 2 through 36, for programming, bit representation, and math practice. Runs in your browser.
Your inputs are processed in your browser and are not transmitted to our servers. Note: third-party resources (e.g. advertising and analytics from Google/Cloudflare) and an optional PayPal donation link may transfer data when loading or when clicked. Number Base Calculator (Any Base 2-36)
The number base calculator converts a decimal number into any numeral system from base 2 through base 36. Whether binary, octal, hexadecimal, or any other base, the calculator delivers the result instantly and reliably. This tool is useful for programmers working with different number systems, for math students practicing conversions, and for anyone curious about how numbers are represented in various bases. Everything happens directly in your browser with no data transmission.
How it works
The conversion works by repeatedly dividing by the target base. At each step you record the remainder, and the final result is read by reading the remainders from bottom to top. As a concrete example, the decimal number 42 is converted to binary (base 2). 42 divided by 2 gives 21 with remainder 0. 21 divided by 2 gives 10 with remainder 1. 10 divided by 2 gives 5 with remainder 0. 5 divided by 2 gives 2 with remainder 1. 2 divided by 2 gives 1 with remainder 0. 1 divided by 2 gives 0 with remainder 1. Reading the remainders from bottom to top gives 101010. So 42 in decimal equals 101010 in binary. For bases above 10, digits 10 through 35 are represented by the letters A through Z.
What the tool can and cannot do
This calculator works with whole decimal integers. It supports bases from 2 through 36, which covers all common numeral systems including binary, octal, decimal, and hexadecimal. It cannot convert fractional or floating-point numbers, only natural numbers. For very large numbers the representation can become lengthy, because the conversion relies on repeated division and extreme values require many steps. Negative numbers are not directly supported. This tool is a pure conversion utility and does not offer arithmetic operations in different bases.
Why local processing in the browser
All calculations happen locally in your browser. Your inputs are never sent to a server, there is no upload and no server log files storing your data. You need neither an account nor a sign-up. After the page loads, the calculator works offline too, because the assets are cached and a flaky connection will not interrupt you. There is no server that could be attacked and nothing is transmitted over the network. You can freely experiment, discard results, and recalculate because nothing is stored or tracked. Local processing also means the data does not need to be transmitted over a network, which saves energy.
Frequently asked questions
Which bases are supported?
The calculator supports bases from 2 through 36. This includes binary (base 2), octal (base 8), decimal (base 10), hexadecimal (base 16), and all bases in between.
Do I need to be online?
No, after the page has loaded once, the calculator works offline. The required assets are cached, and a flaky connection will not interrupt you.
Are my data uploaded?
No, your inputs are never sent to a server. Everything is processed locally in your browser, with no upload, no server log, and no third party.
Can I convert fractional numbers?
No, the calculator supports only whole decimal integers. Fractions and floating-point numbers are not supported because the conversion relies on repeated division of whole numbers.
How does the calculator represent digits above 9?
For bases above 10, digits 10 through 35 are represented by uppercase letters A through Z. For example, A stands for 10, B for 11, and Z for 35.
Is the calculator free to use?
Yes, the number base calculator is a free tool that runs directly in your browser. There are no hidden costs or limitations.
